Is the Fantasmic! Dining Package at Disneyland Worth It?

Seeing Fantasmic! is high on a lot of Disneyland must-see lists and for good reason. It’s an incredible show, but it’s also one of the most crowded nighttime experiences in the park. The viewing area fills early, space gets tight, and it can be stressful trying to figure out where to stand.
We decided to try a Fantasmic! dining package as a way to simplify the evening and guarantee a spot, choosing Rancho del Zocalo 1st show for dinner because we’d heard the portions were huge and we hadn’t eaten there before. This post breaks down what the experience was actually like, what worked well, and what we’d do differently next time.
Quick answer (TL;DR)
The Fantasmic! dining package can be worth it if securing a viewing spot for the show matters to you and crowd stress is something you want to minimize. While the food at Rancho del Zocalo was just okay for us, having a reserved area in such a busy part of the park made the evening feel more manageable. We’d consider doing the dining package again but would likely try it with a different restaurant because Fantasmic! itself is absolutely worth seeing.

What the Rancho del Zocalo dining package included
We chose Rancho del Zocalo because we’d heard the portions were very large, which sounded like a good fit for our family.

In reality, the food was fine but not especially memorable, and the portions were smaller than we expected (it looks like more food than it felt like). One of my kids chose the chicken leg meal, and the entire meal ended up being just a small chicken drumstick. After dinner, several of our kids were still hungry.
Because of that, we ended up placing a mobile order for corndogs from nearby Stage Door Cafe which the kids loved. That worked out, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re expecting the dining package meal to fully replace dinner for everyone in your group.
Waiting and seating before the show
One thing we didn’t fully anticipate was how much sitting there would be before the show started. We were seated on the ground in the reserved viewing area, and since it was nighttime, it felt fairly chilly.
Our spot was also directly in front of a fence, with a post right in front of us. It didn’t ruin the show, but it did affect the view slightly and made the seating feel less comfortable overall.
This is a good example of the tradeoff with reserved viewing: you have a reserved spot, but you don’t necessarily get a perfect viewing setup.
The viewing experience during Fantasmic!
Once the show started, Fantasmic! was incredible. It is truly one of the highlights of Disneyland. Considering how packed that area gets, having a reserved section was genuinely nice.
One important thing to know: once you’re in the viewing area, it’s not easy to leave and come back. There’s no real in-and-out flexibility, so it’s important to:
- use the bathroom beforehand
- grab snacks or drinks in advance
- plan to stay put until the show is over
If you’re prepared for that, the reserved area can make an otherwise chaotic experience feel much easier.
Why we’d consider doing it Again (with a different restaurant)
Even though the food at Rancho del Zocalo didn’t stand out for us, we’d still consider doing a Fantasmic! dining package again just likely with a different dining option.
The reason is simple: Fantasmic! is worth seeing, and that area of the park can be extremely crowded. Having a guaranteed viewing spot took a lot of the stress out of the evening.
For us, the value was less about the meal and more about the logistics. Next time, we’d prioritize a dining option we’re more excited about food-wise, knowing that the reserved viewing itself is the main benefit.
Who the Fantasmic! dining package is best for
The Fantasmic! dining package tends to work best for:
- families who really want to see the show without staking out a spot early
- guests who find that area overwhelming at night
- trips where nighttime shows are a priority
- people who prefer structure over flexibility in the evening
It may not be worth it for:
- families who like to move around freely at night
- guests who don’t mind waiting in crowded areas
- people expecting a standout dining experience
- trips where kids struggle with late nights or sitting for long periods
Big takeaway
The Fantasmic! dining package isn’t about getting the best seat or the best meal; it’s about making one of the busiest nighttime experiences at Disneyland feel more manageable. While we wouldn’t repeat the Rancho del Zocalo package specifically, we would consider trying the dining package again because Fantasmic! is such a great show and securing a spot can be challenging.
As with most Disney add-ons, it comes down to whether guaranteed viewing and reduced stress are worth the tradeoffs for your family.
