Welcome!

Most travel content shows you what a perfect trip looks like.

Carry-Ons & Kids exists to help you figure out what will actually make your trip feel good for you.

This is a different approach to Disney travel

A lot of Disney planning advice assumes that:

  • more is better
  • longer days are successful days
  • skipping things means you did it wrong

We don’t plan trips that way.

Here, planning is about making decisions you won’t regret later — not trying to do everything before you’re exhausted.

That means:

  • choosing a few things that really matter
  • planning just enough to support them
  • letting the rest go without guilt

A fun day is enough.

Why this site is different

Here you’ll find:

  • realistic strategies that work with kids
  • honest conversations about what wasn’t worth it
  • decision frameworks instead of checklists
  • permission to enjoy the trip you’re actually having

The goal isn’t to sell a version of Disney; it’s to help you experience it well.

Our perspective

My name is Kate Dean, and I’ve been sharing tips, recipes, and information online for over 14 years. I’m also a mom of five, and we’re Magic Key holders who regularly visit Disneyland and California Adventure. Traveling with a family of seven means every trip involves:

  • different energy levels
  • different priorities
  • real constraints

Long waits, overpacked days, and constant rushing don’t work for us, so we’ve learned to plan differently.

Everything shared here has been pressure-tested in real parks, with real kids, and real tradeoffs. The goal here is just to make trips more enjoyable.

You don’t need perfect conditions for Disney to be fun. You just need to know what a fun trip means for you.

What you’ll find here

At Carry-Ons & Kids, we focus on:

  • how to decide what’s worth doing
  • how to avoid burnout (before it starts)
  • how to use tools like mobile ordering, reservations, and add-ons thoughtfully
  • how to plan days that leave room for flexibility
  • how to let go of expectations that don’t serve you

Whether you’re planning Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, or another family trip down the road, the goal is the same:

The goal is less pressure. Better memories.

If You’re New Here

A good place to start is our Pick 5 Decision Guide — a simple way to define what would make your day feel successful before the noise takes over.

Because when you know what matters most, everything else gets easier.

Carry-Ons & Kids is here to help you plan trips that feel calm, intentional, and genuinely fun .
